Smashbox Primer Oil

Whenever you shop online at Sephora, you can select a few free samples to be delivered along with your order, and the Smashbox Primer Oil was one such sample.

I had heard a lot of great things about the Smashbox Priming Water, so I wanted to check this product out. The product comes with huge claims, including:

  • Create an ideal canvas for makeup application
  • Reduce appearance of dry fine lines
  • Increased moisture in just 4 weeks

I just mixed this in with my L’Oreal Infallible Pro-Matt Foundation and applied it to my face using my fingers. I then set my makeup with the Laura Mercier Loose Setting Powder.

I did really like the way my foundation went on – it was smooth, easier to blend, and the end result was great. I also felt hydrated, but not oily, as this oil was quickly absorbed into the skin. I also didn’t feel like I got any more oily than usual through out the day.

I don’t think this does anything to extend the longevity of the makeup, though. On the claim of increased moisture to the skin, we will just have to wait and see 🙂

Smashbox also states that this oil can be used in a number of ways, such as applying it to dry cuticles or the ends of the hair.

Overall, I think it is a good product, but doesn’t necessarily do anything that another oil won’t do. Wayne Goss posted this tip ages ago (here) about mixing in a drop of oil with your foundation.

Do you use facial oils, and do you mix them with your foundation? x

  1. Great review. I saw that Wayne Goss video! Love him. I agree, I think that “primer oil” is a gimmick name to sell something that’s been around for ages. At least you got to try it for free 🙂 xo J
